Adif, the Generalitat and the City Council of Alicante have finalised the agreement regulating the redevelopment of the land freed from the tracks. The total estimated investment amounts to €347 million.
The definitive agreement regulating the redevelopment of the land freed from the tracks at the railway access in Alicante is now valid, as reported by Alicante Plaza. The text, finalised after incorporating the latest amendments from the Generalitat, lays the groundwork for the Central Park, a green area of over 200,000 square metres with a continuous layout of nearly 2.1 kilometres.
The three administrations had already reached an agreement on the content the previous week. What remained was to finalise the document, which was concretised this Friday. According to sources from Adif, the agreement divides Integrated Operation number 2 into three separate actions, allowing them to be executed in phases according to their prior requirements and financing. The total planned investment for the three is €347 million, the same figure that had already been advanced in June.
The first action covers the redevelopment of the underground railway box and the covering of the track area that still runs on the surface, connecting to the Alicante Término Station. It will cost €220.40 million. Adif will contribute 50% (€110.2 million), the Generalitat 25% (€55.1 million), and the City Council of Alicante another 25%, also €55.1 million. The payment will be distributed over a 10-year schedule.
According to the agreement, Adif will be responsible for tendering, awarding, directing and approving the necessary projects, as well as the works and technical assistance derived from them. This is specified by municipal sources.
“Tender, award, direct and approve all necessary projects to develop the action of the agreement”
The second action involves remodelling the current Alicante Término Station and building a new adjacent terminal, connected to the historic one, as well as other railway-use buildings. Adif will bear 100% of the cost, as it affects infrastructures under its management. Sources from Adif indicate that the drafting of the specifications is nearing completion and that the tender could be called before the end of the year.
The third action urbanises the area around the railway box. It includes the Central Tram Station, the replacement of the Renfe parking lot, which will become underground, and the site of the new Bus Station. This will mainly be carried out by the City Council, with support from the Generalitat.
For residents, the division has a practical consequence: the works for each section can be tendered without waiting for all urban planning procedures in the area to be completed. However, the remaining two actions must wait for an approved urban planning instrument. Meanwhile, Avant is preparing to contract a integration study to organise the coexistence between the Central Tram Station, Central Park, the future Bus Station, and the new Término Station.
