Catalan doctors enter an indefinite strike this Wednesday, with a demonstration on the Diagonal in Barcelona. The protest is regional and joins other calls in Valencia, Madrid, the Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, and Andalusia.

Doctors and medical staff in Catalonia are joining this Wednesday, October 28, a wave of regional strikes, as reported by Infobae. They are doing so alongside professionals from the Community of Valencia and the Community of Madrid, in a protest that had already begun in Canary Islands on October 16.

These regional calls have been made independently of the indefinite general strike announced by the unions CESM, SMA, and SME. That general strike was postponed because the project for the Framework Statute promoted by the Ministry of Health fell through, and there will be no interlocutor with the capacity to negotiate until a new Government is formed.

In Catalonia, the union Metges de Catalunya is launching an indefinite strike with a demonstration on the Diagonal in Barcelona. For patients in the Catalan healthcare system, this means that the protest has no announced end date and may affect daily care.

In the Community of Madrid, the Strike Committee of Doctors and Medical Staff, which includes unions such as the Association of Doctors and Higher Graduates of Madrid (Amyts), has called for four blocks of strikes. The first runs from 08:00 on October 28 to 08:00 on October 31, with the next ones scheduled between November 4 and 7, November 18 and 21, and December 9 and 12.

In the Community of Valencia, the union Avanza, part of the Medical and Medical Staff Union (UMYF), maintains its call for an indefinite regional strike. The source does not detail how minimum services will be implemented in each territory.

On the other hand, a united demonstration is planned in Madrid on November 21, with a route from the Ministry of Health to the Congress of Deputies. Strikes in Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia are expected to take place in November, according to the planned schedule.
