ERC kicks off its campaign for the general elections on November 29 with the slogan "Defend Yourself". Elisenda Alamany positions the party as the best defence for Catalonia against a potential PP and Vox Government.
The Secretary General and spokesperson for ERC, Elisenda Alamany, has presented the slogan "Defend Yourself" for the campaign for the general elections on November 29. According to diariosigloxxi.com, the party sees it as a direct response to what it considers a risk for Catalonia and the Catalan language.
In her statements this Thursday, Alamany linked politics with citizens' discontent over the rising cost of living, the difficulty in accessing housing, the operation of trains, and waiting lists in public healthcare.
"ERC will be the best defence of our country against the risk of going backwards, of returning to the past, of losing rights that have been so hard to achieve"
The republicans want to position themselves on the left and confront, in their words, "fascism". They aim for the elections to be seen as a historic moment in which the rights of Catalonia and its citizens are at stake, although the train accident in Urda (Toledo) has somewhat disrupted the campaign's rhythm.
ERC's main electoral opponent is the PSC, followed by Comuns and Junts. The party estimates there are about 500,000 votes at stake with the socialists, around 250,000 with Comuns, and about 50,000 with Junts, and will try to counter the useful vote narrative promoted by the PSC.
The campaign will kick off on November 12 in Tarragona with Gabriel Rufián, head of the list for Congress, alongside Oriol Junqueras and Alamany. The central event will take place on November 22 in Barcelona, featuring the three leaders and Irene Montero, head of the Podemos list for Madrid. In between, there will be events in Palma on November 13 and in Castellón on November 19.
Rufián will not be able to attend the scheduled events in Girona due to scheduling conflicts. The campaign will close on November 27 in Sant Andreu de la Barca, and they will follow the election night at the Ciutadella campus of Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
The total budget for the campaign amounts to €2.3 million: €1.2 million for electoral procedures, such as sending out propaganda, and €1.1 million for ordinary event expenses. This is the first time the party has sufficient funds to avoid seeking loans or credit lines. The previous campaign cost €1.8 million, and the increase in postal sending costs is attributed to population growth and including expenses for the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands.
