Carles Puigdemont has made a surprise appearance in Prats de Molló for the inauguration of the Casa Macià project. The town commemorates this Sunday the centenary of the events led by Francesc Macià.
According to lavanguardia.com, the former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont has unexpectedly attended Prats de Molló, in Northern Catalunya, just 13 kilometres from the Spanish border. His presence is in response to the official inauguration of the museum project for Casa Macià.
The visit coincides with the commemoration of the centenary of the events in Prats de Molló, the attempted military invasion of Catalonia from France organised by the former republican president Francesc Macià. This Sunday marks the anniversary of that attempt, and the building where Macià lived is now becoming a space of memory.
Days earlier, Judge Pablo Llarena closed the case against Puigdemont in the Supreme Court. This is the final step for the Criminal Chamber to definitively apply amnesty to him and exempt him from all criminal responsibility.
Puigdemont had previously visited Macià's house in 2020, during a tribute where he laid a floral offering alongside the mayor of the French town, Claude Ferrer. That same year, a private individual purchased the property, which is now being restored with the museum project.
To advance the space, a foundation has been created, presided over by former councillor Lluís Puig. Among the members of its board are former presidents Carles Puigdemont, Pere Aragonès, and Quim Torra.
