A Sensory Journey at the Sagrada Família
The iconic Sagrada Família in Barcelona is preparing to offer a unique experience during Holy Week, combining art, spirituality, and technology. This year, the famous temple designed by Antoni Gaudí will present a mapping show that will recreate the Passion of Christ through an impressive fusion of lights and music.
On 29th, 30th and 31st March, visitors will be able to enjoy this visual representation on the façade of the Passion. Each session will last approximately 25 minutes, with two daily performances scheduled at 21:00 and 21:30. The narration will be based on the texts of the late Bishop Antoni Vadell, offering a profound reflection on the events surrounding the life and death of Jesus Christ. This event will be accessible in Catalan and Spanish, alternating between both languages.
In addition to the visual spectacle, the Sagrada Família will also host various traditional liturgical celebrations. On Palm Sunday, 29th March at 12:00, Mons. Javier Vilanova, Auxiliary Bishop of Barcelona, will preside over the blessing of palms alongside a special Eucharist. Tickets for this event can be collected between 24th and 27th March.
As Holy Week progresses, other notable ceremonies will include the Lord's Supper on Maundy Thursday (2nd April at 20:00), presided over by Mons. David Abadías, as well as the Stations of the Cross to be held on Good Friday (3rd April at 21:00). The latter will be officiated by Mons. Abadías in front of the same façade where the mapping will be projected.
There will also be space for the spiritual; from 21st March to 6th April, a family workshop aimed at children aged 6 to 12 will be offered. This workshop will allow participants to explore the terminal of the cross in the tower dedicated to Jesus while enjoying decorating figures inspired by the façade with chocolate, thanks to local chocolatier Lluc Crusellas.
Those who cannot attend in person will have access to all celebrations via live streaming, ensuring that no one misses this moving religious celebration.
