A new opportunity for Catalan tenants
The Government of Catalonia has announced a new rental assistance call, which will open next Tuesday, April 10. This initiative, the result of an agreement with the Comuns, aims to provide financial relief to individuals aged between 36 and 64 who are struggling to cover their housing expenses.
With a budget allocated for this assistance amounting to 106 million euros, it is expected that approximately 40,000 additional people will benefit compared to previous calls. This increase is made possible by raising the annual income limit required to access the grant, which goes from 25,000 euros to 36,279.32 euros.
The new call also introduces changes to the monthly amount that applicants can receive. Depending on their income, the assistance will range between 50 and 200 euros. Additionally, new caps have been established for the subsidised rent: in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, this limit rises to 1,000 euros per month, while in other parts of the Barcelona demarcation it will be 750 euros.
Large families, single-parent families, or those with a disabled member will also see significant benefits. The maximum amount of subsidised rent for these groups will be 1,100 euros in the metropolitan area and 900 euros in the rest of Catalonia.
The Comuns have emphasised the importance of this assistance as a fundamental tool to prevent critical housing-related situations. “These grants are intended for people who are not necessarily on the brink of eviction, but who need support to maintain their home,” they stated.
Interested parties will have until April 30 to submit their applications. With this measure, the Government hopes not only to alleviate the economic burdens on tenants but also to contribute to greater social stability within the Catalan territory.
