Lluís Puig, from Junts, respects Carles Puigdemont's decision not to act as leader of the opposition in the Parliament. He also regrets the absence of president Salvador Illa at the event of his return to the chamber.

No former president of the Generalitat has ever acted as leader of the opposition, recalls Lluís Puig, former Minister of Culture and leader of Junts, in an interview reported by Europa Press this Saturday. Puig thus supports Carles Puigdemont's decision not to occupy his seat in the Parlament with that function.

According to Puig, the position does not imply any dishonour, but he believes that a former president can dedicate his time to other tasks. He points out that the work of commissions and plenary sessions takes up a good part of the day.

“The mechanics of commissions and plenary sessions in the Parlament consume a good part of your working hours.”

Puig has also referred to Puigdemont's return to the chamber, after nine years outside the State due to 1-O. He explains that the return took place days before his public appearance to avoid accumulating all the emotions caused by his return.

The leader of Junts describes that return as a feeling of satisfaction that he tried to contain. Puig states that Catalonia still needs independence, according to his words.

Puig regrets that the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, did not attend on Wednesday the event of Puigdemont's return to the Parlament.

“Humanly, I feel bad about Illa's absence.”

On the other hand, Puig says he has shared with Puigdemont “many hours, many joys, many moments of uncertainty” and assures that he will keep in touch with him for life.

Regarding the so-called Catalunya Nord, Puig describes it as a balm and recalls his involvement with entities and municipalities in the area in cultural matters. He now proposes to act as an ambassador for that culture in the south.

“If I was previously there a kind of ambassador of the culture of Catalunya Sud, now that I am here, I would like to be an ambassador of the culture of Catalunya Nord here in the south.”
