Junts per Barcelona takes the government of Jaume Collboni before the Electoral Board for the open doors event at the Municipal Sports Centre La Sagrera on October 9, after the City Council suspended the planned inauguration due to the electoral period.
Junts per Barcelona has filed a complaint with the Barcelona Electoral Board against the municipal government of Jaume Collboni regarding the open doors event at the Municipal Sports Centre (CEM) La Sagrera, held on October 9. The party argues that the event may have violated electoral regulations by maintaining its format and content despite being officially suspended.
According to the party, the City Council sent an institutional invitation on October 5 for the inauguration of the facility, scheduled for the 9th at 6:00 PM. The following day, the council communicated the suspension of the event "due to the limitations of the electoral period." However, according to Junts, the centre ended up opening its doors to the public with an event attended by Mayor Collboni and Councillor Marta Villanueva.
"What happened at the Municipal Sports Centre La Sagrera is a paradigmatic example of how the Collboni government tries to circumvent the law"
This was expressed by the president of the Junts municipal group, Jordi Martí Galbis, who framed this episode within what he considers a pattern of behaviour of the socialist executive throughout the mandate. In his opinion, there are "well-founded indications that the announced suspension did not entail the actual cancellation of the inaugural event, but merely the modification of its name and format, while maintaining its substantial elements."
Martí recalled other campaigns by the municipal government to reinforce his argument, such as 'Fem la Barcelona de la teva vida', which the CAC ordered to be withdrawn for being illegal and which cost taxpayers 1.09 million euros, or the 'Poca Vergonya' campaign, which, in his view, was surrounded by controversy over possible plagiarism of photographs that the government refused to investigate.
"The Collboni government has been using the money of all Barcelonians for three and a half years to promote the PSC"
The complaint asks the Electoral Board to determine whether the events constitute a violation of articles 50.2 and 50.3 of the LOREG. If it is confirmed that the principle of institutional neutrality and electoral regulations were not respected, Junts demands that legally appropriate measures be taken and that the corresponding responsibilities be clarified.
The party has announced that it will maintain "permanent vigilance" over the actions of the Barcelona government throughout the electoral period. The complaint is now in the hands of the Barcelona Electoral Board, which must decide whether it sees indications of infringement and, if so, refer the case to the competent authorities.
