A man aged between 30 and 40 has died this morning after being attacked by several people armed with knives on Romaní street, in the Barcelona district of Nou Barris. The Mossos are investigating the motive and searching for the attackers, who have not been arrested.
A man aged between 30 and 40 has died this morning on Romaní street, in the Nou Barris district of Barcelona, after being attacked by a group of people armed with knives. The events occurred around two in the morning on October 12, in the Roquetes neighbourhood, according to police sources.
The first to arrive at the scene were agents from the Mossos d'Esquadra, who performed resuscitation maneuvers on the victim until the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) arrived. The medical service mobilised four ambulances, but the man died in the street due to his injuries.
The investigation has been handed over to the Divisió d'Investigació Criminal (DIC) of the Mossos in Barcelona, who are working to identify the perpetrators and reconstruct what happened. So far, no one has been arrested.
One of the main uncertainties is the motive for the crime. Investigators have not determined whether the attackers knew the victim and the attack was the result of a prior confrontation, or if it was a violent robbery that ended with his death. The connection of the perpetrators to any criminal organisation has also not been confirmed.
Some witnesses have provided information to the agents about the people who participated in the attack. One of the lines being examined is the possible connection of the attackers to a Latin gang, although the Mossos are avoiding confirming this hypothesis for now, according to sources close to the case.
“The Mossos d'Esquadra have opened an investigation to clarify the facts and identify the authors of this new homicide”
The incident once again highlights the issue of knife violence in the Catalan capital. On the same night, in Girona, a fight in a Latin pub on Ramon Folch street left a man in serious condition after being stabbed in the neck.
Residents of Roquetes and the rest of Nou Barris can provide any information related to the attack through the usual channels of the Mossos d'Esquadra. The investigation remains open and further actions are not ruled out in the coming hours.
