A renewed commitment to the most vulnerable
In an effort to address the growing issue of homelessness, the Town Hall of El Masnou, in collaboration with the Local Assembly of the Red Cross, has launched an innovative programme that includes Social Emergency Units. This service aims to provide comprehensive and humane care to individuals in extreme vulnerability.
The new units are made up of a team of twenty volunteers, all trained to handle delicate situations and offer emotional support. The initiative not only includes direct care for homeless individuals but also incorporates a specially designed vehicle to facilitate fieldwork. This new resource will allow volunteers to quickly move to different points in the municipality where the presence of homeless individuals has been identified.
A distinctive feature of this programme is its collaborative approach. The Social Emergency Units will work hand in hand with municipal social services, enabling them to address each case with precision and effectiveness. This synergy is essential for identifying the real needs of each individual and facilitating their access to essential resources such as medical care or social assistance.
Although the project includes the distribution of basic products such as food, blankets, and hygiene kits, its main focus lies in establishing meaningful human connections. For many people living on the streets, the emotional support provided by volunteers can be crucial. The Units will conduct regular rounds in the most affected areas of the municipality, but they will also be available to respond to alerts from both the public and social services. Each intervention will be backed by specialised personnel and will have the necessary materials to ensure an adequate response to any emergency.
With this initiative, El Masnou not only seeks to mitigate the consequences of homelessness but also to foster a more inclusive and supportive community culture.
