A new chapter for the relocated from B9
The Department of Social Rights of the Generalitat has made a crucial decision to extend the stay of migrants who were evicted from the former B9 institute in Badalona. This measure, which extends until 31 March, aims to provide temporary relief to around a hundred people who are still in vulnerable situations.
The eviction, which took place on 17 December, was the result of a lengthy legal process initiated by the Badalona City Council. After being expelled, many affected individuals opted to set up tents in the square in front of the former educational centre, but this action was quickly suppressed by local authorities. In less than 48 hours, the migrants were forced to move under the C-31 bridge, where they faced extreme weather conditions.
In light of the intense cold and the difficult conditions they were exposed to, several social entities along with the Generalitat implemented a plan to relocate these individuals. According to data provided by the councillor Mònica Martínez Bravo, approximately 152 migrants were initially accommodated in various shelters and temporary resources distributed throughout Catalunya. However, this number has been decreasing over time.
Despite the decline in figures, Martínez Bravo assures that her department is committed to constant social monitoring for each of the evicted individuals who have accepted assistance. This monitoring includes not only basic support but also access to social services and training and employment opportunities.
In addition to social support, specialized legal advice is being provided to help migrants regularize their documentation status. The councillor emphasizes that it is essential to provide them with tools to promote their autonomy and inclusion within Catalan society.
As this process progresses, Social Rights is working tirelessly to find more permanent housing solutions for those in critical situations. The goal is to ensure not only a safe refuge but also a dignified and autonomous life for all those affected.
