An emblematic figure bids farewell
This Tuesday, the city of Figueres said goodbye to one of its most significant leaders, former mayor Marià Lorca, who passed away at the age of 87. Born in Navata in 1938, Lorca left an indelible mark on local history by leading the city from 1983 to 1995 under the banner of Convergència i Unió (CiU).
Throughout his political career, Marià Lorca cultivated a close relationship with the renowned painter Salvador Dalí. It is said that in his final days, Dalí shared an unconfessed secret with him, a mystery that remains unsolved. Furthermore, it was Lorca who received the artist's last wish: to be buried under the dome of the Dalí Museum instead of in Púbol, where Gala rested.
From the Ajuntament de Figueres, condolences have been expressed for his passing, and it has been emphasized that his legacy lives on in the structures and projects he promoted during his tenure. His vision and dedication to the community left an imprint that still resonates among the citizens.
The funeral of Marià Lorca is scheduled for this Wednesday at ten in the morning at the Church of Sant Pere, where friends, family, and citizens will gather to pay tribute to his life and work. The Figueres community is preparing to remember not only the politician but also the man who dedicated much of his life to public service.
