This Saturday, Catalunya was the scene of three tragic accidents in the natural environment that resulted in the deaths of three people. The incidents, which occurred in different localities, have generated a strong response from emergency services and highlighted the dangers associated with outdoor recreational activities.
Accident on the Llobregat River
The first accident took place in Ametlla de Merola, where an 18-year-old drowned while swimming in the Llobregat River. The Bombers de la Generalitat received the alert at 15:22 h, mobilising a large operation that included 12 units and a helicopter. After an extensive search, his body was located at 16:59 h, but unfortunately, they were unable to resuscitate him.
The rescue team's efforts included units from the Underwater Action Group and drones to facilitate the search. Additionally, six units from the Mossos d’Esquadra collaborated to carry out the necessary judicial procedures.
In another incident, a diver lost his life near Cadaqués. The alert was received at 15:31 h, reporting his absence after having completed a dive. An operation composed of several units from the Roses park and specialised teams was quickly deployed. The Maritime Unit of the Mossos d’Esquadra located his lifeless body about 10 metres underwater, which led Salvamento Marítimo and Cruz Roja to also participate in the efforts.
Finally, the Bombers concluded the search for the young man who had been missing since Thursday while jet skiing in the bay of Roses. Despite the joint effort involving over a hundred personnel and aerial-terrestrial resources, no new clues about his whereabouts were found. The Guardia Civil will now take over the corresponding investigation.
These tragic events highlight the inherent risks of enjoying the natural environment and underscore the importance of respecting the necessary rules and precautions during these recreational activities. Local authorities have urged all citizens to be cautious and always informed about the conditions before venturing outdoors.
