Rodalies suspends service on the R2 Sud and Regional Sud from 22:00 this Saturday, with the Garraf coast and Baix Llobregat under red alert. The R1 is operating on a single track.

According to moncloa.com, Rodalies has suspended the operation of the R2 Sud and Regional Sud from 22:00 this Saturday 17 October. This measure is in response to the red alert for rain affecting the Garraf and Baix Llobregat coasts, where Protecció Civil has been monitoring the evolution of the storm since early afternoon.

The operator has set the last services for each direction. Heading south, the last train departs from Estació de França at 20:48 bound for Sant Vicenç de Calders, expected to arrive at 22:06. Another train leaves at 20:58 towards Vilanova i la Geltrú and completes its journey at 21:59.

For those needing to return from the coast, there are two options: a train from Sant Vicenç de Calders at 20:30, arriving in Barcelona at 21:51, or one from Vilanova i la Geltrú at 20:38, which finishes its route at 21:42. After these times, there will be no trains in that area until further notice.

The situation is further complicated by the R1, which is operating on a single track, and several roads closed in the region. Those relying on the coastal route will need to consider alternatives or postpone non-essential travel. It is advisable to check the status of the network on the Rodalies de Catalunya website before heading out.

The alert from Protecció Civil de la Generalitat has been issued in the form of two ES-Alert messages. The first affects Maresme, Vallès Oriental, and Selva, with rainfall expected until 20:00. The second targets Barcelonès, Baix Llobregat, and Garraf, where the most intense episode is anticipated between 20:00 and 2:00 on Sunday morning.

The R2 Sud connects the Garraf and Baix Llobregat coasts with Barcelona and Vallès Occidental. According to the operator's data, its area of influence includes over 2.38 million residents across 13 municipalities, meaning the suspension affects a large part of the metropolitan area, not just weekend travellers.

Rodalies suspends this type of service when Meteocat raises the alert to red along the coastal strip. The reason is safety: a train stopped between stations with rising water poses a risk to passengers. In previous episodes of heavy rain on this same corridor, the line has taken days to return to normal, and replacement buses have been put into operation.

On another note, the search for a missing woman in Cabrera de Mar has been suspended due to the storm, according to information available this Saturday. Ground teams cannot continue working due to the risks posed by the rain.

For Sunday, if the red alert remains in effect until 2:00, the reopening of the R2 Sud will not be immediate, as the state of the track will need to be assessed first. R1 users should expect irregular frequencies and possible transfers. Future communications from Rodalies and Meteocat will indicate when service resumes.
