Catalonia regains calm after a cold and rainy start to November. Storm Bruna will arrive on Sunday with moderate precipitation and a notable rise in temperatures.
According to elperiodico.com, the region is emerging from a first week of November marked by a mass of cold air from central Europe, which brought widespread rain and temperatures that dropped to 10 degrees in some areas. The contrast with the previous October is stark, as several areas exceeded 25 ºC.
The rainfall from the first week left accumulations of up to 100 mm and flooding in Tarragona, particularly impacting el Vendrell. The minimum temperatures, however, have already been typical of mid-winter in much of the territory.
Saturday is expected to see scattered rain in the northern half of Catalonia, without significant accumulations. With the arrival of Sunday, the storm named Bruna will pass near the region, although its most severe effects will be concentrated in the west of the Iberian Peninsula, in the south and in the Canary Islands, with storms and abundant showers.
What sets this storm apart from previous ones this month is the rise in temperatures.
This rise is due to the retreat of cold air in the upper layers and the push of southerly winds, which bring a warmer air mass. Until Wednesday, temperatures are expected to exceed 20 ºC on the coast, in what is known as the veranillo de San Martín.
On the coast, cloudy skies and a muggy atmosphere will be the norm while the storm remains nearby. In the Camp de Tarragona and on the central coast and pre-coast, some isolated precipitation may fall between Saturday and Sunday, especially in the latter part of the week.
