A man has been detained in connection with a wildfire that erupted in Tiana, leading to the evacuation of several municipalities. The fire, which has consumed 25 hectares, poses a significant threat to local communities.
A wildfire that ignited near Tiana on Friday morning has prompted urgent evacuations and a swift response from emergency services. The blaze, which began around 10:45 AM, quickly spread across the municipalities of Tiana and Montgat, creating a visible plume of smoke that could be seen from miles away.
The Catalan firefighters, known as Bombers de la Generalitat, deployed an extensive operation involving 26 ground units and 10 aerial resources. Their primary objective is to control the flames and prevent them from advancing into the nearby Serralada de Marina mountains, which separate the Maresme region from Vallès Oriental. This area is home to numerous residential developments.
Preliminary reports indicate that approximately 25 hectares have already burned. According to police sources speaking with EL PERIÓDICO, authorities are investigating the incident as potentially arson-related. A suspect has been apprehended by the Mossos d’Esquadra.
The fire originated close to key community facilities including a municipal sports complex and an institute where summer activities were underway. Fortunately, all children and staff were evacuated without incident as three distinct columns of smoke were observed within a span of just 200 meters.
The firefighting efforts are concentrated over an area spanning 60 hectares. Firefighters have reported progress in containing the blaze but continue to battle intense flames on its right flank. They aim to restrict further spread into adjacent vineyards. As of 1:55 PM, officials expressed optimism about stabilizing the situation shortly.
In response to the escalating threat, Protecció Civil issued alerts via mobile notifications urging residents in Colònia Bosc and nearby areas—including Tiana, Sant Fost de Campsentelles, Santa Maria de Martorelles, and Martorelles—to remain indoors. The most critical areas affected include 17 farmhouses in Tiana and Colònia Bosc.
The fire’s impact extends beyond immediate safety concerns; it has also caused widespread power outages affecting much of Alella due to its proximity to affected urbanizations linked by the same mountain range engulfed in flames. Emergency services have received over 250 calls related to this incident.
