The Generalitat has approved the construction of Inditex's new office complex in Sant Adrià, set to transform the area and create job opportunities. The project includes a new hypermarket and urban improvements.
The Generalitat de Catalunya has officially greenlit the construction of a significant office complex for Inditex in Sant Adrià de Besòs, marking a pivotal development for the metropolitan area of Barcelona. This decision, made public on Friday, allows the fashion giant to establish four headquarters for its brands—Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Oysho, and Lefties—on a site currently occupied by an Alcampo shopping center and surface parking.
Inditex plans to construct approximately 164,098 square meters of office space across four buildings that will rise four stories above ground. The company aims to inaugurate two of these structures by mid-2028, with the remaining two expected to open by 2030 following the demolition of the existing Alcampo store, which has been operational since 1986.
The new development is part of a broader urban improvement initiative that was initially approved by the Sant Adrià City Council on June 11. The council’s goal was to ensure timely approval from the urban planning commission this week without further delays. Modifications were made to address concerns raised by Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition regarding compliance with coastal laws.
With this approval secured, Inditex is set not only to relocate but also to enhance its offerings in Sant Adrià. The future campus will include facilities dedicated to audiovisual production, pattern-making workshops, visual merchandising design, and storage spaces. Sílvia Paneque, Consellera de Territori, emphasized that this project represents a critical step towards transforming the Besòs area into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood with high architectural quality.
The development will coincide with significant upgrades along Avenida de la Platja—one of Sant Adrià’s main thoroughfares—and three surrounding streets. Both Inditex and Alcampo are contributing €9 million towards these enhancements which include constructing two bridges over Rodalies rail lines to better connect residents with the upcoming Tres Xemeneies neighborhood. This new district is projected to feature at least 1,783 residential units alongside an audiovisual complex.
Sant Adrià Mayor Filo Cañete expressed her satisfaction with the Generalitat’s endorsement of this project. She described it as a decisive move towards boosting economic activity and creating job opportunities while enhancing the city’s appeal for strategic investments. Cañete believes that welcoming four Inditex brands solidifies Sant Adrià’s position as an emerging central hub within the metropolitan area capable of attracting talent and fostering economic growth.
This ambitious plan not only aims at revitalizing local infrastructure but also promises substantial social transformation benefiting residents through improved amenities and increased employment prospects. As construction progresses over the next few years, locals can look forward to enhanced public spaces and greater connectivity within their community.
