The Spanish Ministry of Transport has launched a project to install acoustic barriers along the B-10 highway in L'Hospitalet, aiming to reduce noise pollution around the Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve urban living conditions in high-traffic areas.
The Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (Mitma) has taken significant steps to address noise pollution in L’Hospitalet by initiating the installation of acoustic barriers along a 1.4-kilometer stretch of the B-10 highway. This area, located near the Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge (HUB), is known for its heavy traffic and proximity to residential and educational facilities.
The project, which carries an estimated budget of €15.14 million, aims to create a sound barrier that will enhance the acoustic environment surrounding the hospital. According to Mitma officials, this intervention is crucial for improving health conditions for patients and staff at HUB, as well as residents living nearby.
The specific section targeted for these improvements runs between kilometers 18 and 19.4 on the B-10, an area that experiences daily congestion due to its location adjacent to key urban infrastructures. The installation of these barriers is expected not only to mitigate vehicle noise but also to foster a more conducive atmosphere for healing and education.
This initiative is part of a larger campaign by Mitma aimed at combating noise pollution across major thoroughfares in Barcelona province. In addition to the B-10 works, similar projects are planned for other highways including the A-2 in Sant Andreu de la Barca and the B-30 in Cerdanyola del Vallès.
On the A-2 highway, plans include installing acoustic barriers along both sides from kilometers 592.4 to 595.3. This segment will also feature sound-absorbing pavement designed specifically to diminish traffic noise levels, with an allocated budget of €3.75 million.
The B-30 will see enhancements between kilometers 4.5 and 9.4, where over €8 million will be invested in constructing additional sound barriers aimed at protecting sensitive locations such as Hospital Asepeyo, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and residential areas like Bellaterra.
This comprehensive approach not only focuses on installing barriers but also includes necessary supplementary work such as dismantling existing safety structures, modifying affected services, and managing construction waste effectively.
