A new era of safety and preparedness has begun in Calella, as the local government inaugurated a sophisticated weather monitoring center designed to manage risks associated with severe weather events. Located within the premises of the local police station, this facility centralizes critical data streams from multiple sources, enabling authorities to respond swiftly to changing environmental conditions.
The control room is equipped with cutting-edge technology that consolidates information from over 79 sensors strategically placed throughout the city. These devices monitor various parameters such as wave height, beach sand conditions, rainfall intensity, wind speed, and river situations. This initiative is part of a broader effort funded by the European Next Generation funds under the Tourism Sustainability Program. The total investment for establishing this control room amounted to approximately €42,600, excluding VAT. The facility features advanced software tailored for emergency coordination centers and boasts a videowall composed of four 55-inch monitors. The network of sensors feeding into this system includes around 80 devices, which are distributed across 47 key locations in Calella.
