The executive deputy of the Mossos d'Esquadra, Ramón Chacón, assures that the calls for new mobilisations by Blocus in Barcelona are practically annulled. He also considers that Saturday's operation was adequate and effective.
The Mossos d'Esquadra believe they have neutralised the Blocus calls in Barcelona. According to the executive deputy of the force, Ramón Chacón, the number of active calls today is "practically zero," and he has urged to act firmly to cut the phenomenon at its root.
Chacón, in an interview on the Café de ideas programme, defended that the operation deployed on Saturday was "strongly dimensioned" and that it was adequate and effective. For his part, the deputy mayor of Security of the Barcelona City Council, Albert Batlle, has given a positive assessment of the police action.
"We must be decisive and cut it off."
Batlle has announced that surveillance will be maintained over the next few days and has assured that "there will be no impunity" for those who participated in the disturbances. The commissioner added that the Mossos will not tolerate a repeat of the events.
Chacón has drawn attention to the profile of the minors involved. He noted that most have no prior records, which, according to his analysis, is not usually the case in such disturbances. He also spoke of a "mirror effect" of the protests in France and of a "media overexposure" of people who, without having participated, wanted to appear on social media.
The agents have made arrests related to the disturbances of October 24, with the operation on Saturday and with the investigation of the calls disseminated online. Chacón warned that during the general strike there will "probably" be disturbances, due to the history of similar days, and described what happened on October 24 as an "exceptional" event.
