Unprecedented police operation in Catalonia
In a decisive blow against drug trafficking, the Mossos d’Esquadra have dismantled one of the largest logistics centres for hashish in Catalonia. The operation, which took place between November 2025 and May 2026, culminated in the arrest of ten individuals, including nine men and one woman, aged between 24 and 52 years.
The investigation began when a traffic patrol received a report about an accident involving a vehicle in Ulldecona. Upon arrival, the officers found the car with damage consistent with a violent crash and several bullet impacts. Inside, there was a weapon and undetonated ammunition, leading investigators to suspect that a drug-related assault may have occurred.
During the initial inquiries, officers detected an open industrial warehouse where they found numerous metal boxes containing hashish. This space was used as an operational centre for the distribution of the drug and is considered the largest found to date in the region. In total, over 9,000 kg of hashish was recovered, hidden inside welded boxes designed to evade police checks.
The method employed by this criminal organisation was unprecedented: they used custom-made welded metal boxes to store the hashish slabs. Accessing the drugs required the intervention of the Fire Brigade, who used specialized tools to open the boxes.
Throughout the investigative process, it was confirmed that before the operation, they had already moved another 3,000 kg, highlighting the operational capacity of the criminal group. It is estimated that at least twelve tonnes were managed from this logistics centre.
As the investigation progressed under the supervision of the Court number 1 of Amposta, several additional phases were carried out, including searches in other industrial warehouses and homes in both Ulldecona and Fuengirola (Málaga) and Sabadell. This final phase culminated in additional arrests and the discovery of new members linked to the criminal group.
Various electronic devices and phones were confiscated during the entries conducted by the police forces, which will provide valuable information to continue dismantling this network dedicated to international drug trafficking.
