The Terrer Festival returns to Priorat, featuring music and wine tastings. This year marks its tenth anniversary, highlighting local culture and viticulture.
The picturesque region of Priorat is once again alive with the sounds of music and the aroma of fine wines as the Terrer Festival kicks off its tenth anniversary. Tonight, at the stunning Mas de Sant Marcell in Cornudella de Montsant, attendees will enjoy performances by renowned artist Arturo Gaya and the acclaimed group Remei de Ca la Fresca. The festival not only showcases musical talent but also emphasizes the rich history of this beautiful locale, which has roots dating back to the monastic traditions of Escaladei.
Since its inception, the festival has aimed to blend cultural experiences with local viticulture. This year’s event features a lineup that includes a wine tasting from twelve wineries within the DO Montsant region before tonight’s concerts begin. The family Oliver-Ponsarnau, who revived Mas de Sant Marcell after acquiring it in 2019 from a decade-long abandonment, have played a crucial role in restoring both the estate and its vineyards.
Arturo Gaya will present his work Abu Bakr al-Turtuxi, which delves into the poetry of an influential Andalusian sage from Tortosa. Following Gaya’s performance, Remei de Ca la Fresca will take to the stage at ten o’clock to perform selections from their celebrated album L’ham de preguntar. These performances are set against a backdrop steeped in history; Mas de Sant Marcell is situated alongside the Siurana River and was once a refuge for sick monks seeking solace.
The festival director Blai Rosés expressed pride in reaching this milestone: “We aim to bring culture closer to every corner of our region while celebrating our viticultural heritage.” The festival not only entertains but also educates attendees about Priorat’s unique cultural landscape.
Tomorrow evening, audiences can look forward to an exciting performance by The Gramophone Allstars Big Band featuring Jamaican rhythms, jazz, and soul music in Poboleda. This diverse programming reflects Terrer’s commitment to showcasing various musical styles while promoting local talent.
The festivities will continue until December 7th with Marina Herlop closing out this year’s program at Falset’s Artesana theater. As part of its mission over these ten years, Terrer has successfully fostered community engagement through art and wine appreciation.
