The Diputació de Barcelona has approved a significant funding initiative aimed at preserving architectural heritage across ten municipalities in the Maresme region. This investment is part of a broader commitment to enhance cultural sites until 2027.
The Diputació de Barcelona has taken a decisive step towards preserving the rich architectural heritage of the Maresme region by approving an investment of €2,393,802.54. This funding will support various restoration projects across ten municipalities, ensuring that local history and culture are maintained for future generations.
This new program is part of a larger allocation of €27.5 million designated for heritage conservation throughout the province until 2027. The funds will be distributed among municipalities that have applied and met specific criteria, including Alella, Arenys de Mar, Argentona, Cabrera de Mar, Canet de Mar, El Masnou, Premià de Dalt, San Andrés de Llavaneres, Teià, and Vilassar de Mar.
Among the notable projects funded by this initiative is the rehabilitation of the historic convent of Les Clarisses in Arenys de Mar. This site will be transformed into a municipal library, serving as both a cultural resource and a community hub. Additionally, Argentona’s Can Barrau farmhouse will undergo renovations to become a new youth facility.
The program encompasses various types of work including restoration and rehabilitation of buildings with historical significance as well as spaces dedicated to democratic memory such as castles and archaeological sites. These efforts aim not only to preserve these structures but also to promote them as vital components of social cohesion and economic revitalization.
“Restoring local heritage ensures that our community’s historical memory is preserved for future generations,” stated Marc Castells, deputy for Equipment, Urban Infrastructure and Architectural Heritage.
