Rubí is set to host its traditional Sant Joan festivities on June 23, featuring cultural events and a focus on fire safety. The city has implemented strict regulations to ensure a safe celebration amid wildfire risks.

As the sun sets on June 23, Rubí will come alive with the vibrant sounds and sights of its annual Sant Joan celebrations. The festivities kick off at 11:30 PM in Pere Aguilera Square with the arrival of the Flama del Canigó, accompanied by a manifesto reading supported by the local Colla de Diables de Rubí. This year’s event promises to blend tradition with community spirit while prioritizing safety amidst heightened wildfire concerns.

Cultural highlights of the night

The evening’s schedule includes a spectacular ‘tronada’ starting at 11:45 PM, which will illuminate various streets as it makes its way to Escardívol, where most of the night’s activities will unfold. At midnight, attendees can look forward to the ‘raval de foc Escardilarre’, followed shortly after by the ceremonial bonfire lighting at 12:15 AM. A concert will follow at 12:30 AM, ensuring that residents enjoy a night filled with music and camaraderie.

Enhanced safety protocols for fire prevention

This year, Rubí’s city council has taken significant steps to mitigate fire risks associated with fireworks. A comprehensive prevention and security plan has been established, particularly focusing on areas near forested regions. Local authorities have intensified public awareness campaigns through civic agents distributing informative brochures about safe practices when using pyrotechnics.

The city emphasizes that it is prohibited to ignite fires or use fireworks within forested areas or within a 500-meter radius.

This regulation is part of ongoing restrictions from March 15 to October 15, designated as high-risk periods for wildfires. In addition to educational efforts, protective measures include increased signage in high-risk zones and enhanced management strategies for urban areas adjacent to forests.

Community engagement in fire safety education

The local government has also engaged directly with residents living near wooded areas through associations aimed at promoting fire safety awareness. Informational materials have been distributed at six authorized sales points for fireworks during this festive period. Furthermore, maintenance work around these points aims to reduce potential ignition sources.

The municipality continues its strategic forest management initiatives alongside these preventive measures.

This proactive approach reflects lessons learned from previous years when similar celebrations led to unfortunate incidents due to negligence regarding fire safety protocols.

A call for responsible celebration practices

Civil Protection officials are urging residents to celebrate responsibly by adhering strictly to guidelines regarding pyrotechnics usage. They highlight that loud noises from fireworks can distress sensitive individuals and pets alike. Therefore, they encourage opting for low-intensity or light-based fireworks whenever possible.

The aim is not only to minimize fire hazards but also reduce noise pollution during this festive occasion.

The city council’s commitment extends beyond just enforcing rules; it fosters a sense of community responsibility among residents as they prepare for an unforgettable night under the stars. As Rubí embraces its rich traditions while navigating modern challenges, it exemplifies how communities can celebrate safely and joyfully together.
