As the summer solstice approaches, Sabadell gears up for its annual Sant Joan celebrations on the night of June 23-24, introducing an extensive safety and prevention strategy. This year, the local government has implemented a specialized security plan designed to manage one of the busiest nights in the city while ensuring public safety.
Increased police presence and fire prevention efforts
The Municipal Police will double its usual deployment during the festivities, collaborating closely with Mossos d’Esquadra to enhance traffic controls, particularly concerning alcohol consumption. Additionally, volunteer firefighters from the Agrupación de Defensa Forestal (ADF) will join forces to monitor fire hazards throughout the night.
This year’s celebrations include 20 verbenas, or street parties, spread across various neighborhoods, alongside four bonfires located in Torrent del Capellà, Gràcia, La Creu Alta, and La Creu de Barberà. Volunteers from Civil Protection will be present at key locations to bolster security measures.
Environmental maintenance initiatives underway
The city’s commitment to fire prevention extends beyond just the festival. In preparation for summer activities, Sabadell has allocated €22,500 for maintaining over twenty kilometers of pathways—more than double last year’s budget of €10,000. These enhancements include clearing brush along trails and improving drainage systems to facilitate emergency vehicle access.
The municipality is also focusing on cleaning up public spaces and parks in anticipation of increased foot traffic during Sant Joan. Regular inspections of water points are part of ongoing efforts aimed at preserving natural areas while ensuring community safety.

The day after Sant Joan promises a robust cleanup operation as municipal services prepare for waste collection despite it being a holiday. Special teams will be deployed immediately following the festivities to clear remnants from bonfires and restore public areas used for celebrations.
Ahead of June 24th, all paper and cardboard bins will be emptied on June 23rd as part of proactive measures. Following the event’s conclusion, there will be intensified glass collection in high-traffic nightlife zones.
Guidelines for responsible celebration
The local government has issued guidelines urging residents to consider those who may be affected by fireworks—including infants, seniors, neurodivergent individuals, and pets. Recommendations include opting for quieter fireworks or light-based alternatives while avoiding loud explosions near sensitive areas.
