A serious traffic incident occurred on Monday afternoon in the Vila de Gràcia neighborhood of Barcelona, resulting in injuries to six individuals. The collision involved a Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) bus and a private vehicle, prompting immediate emergency response efforts.

Details of the Incident

The accident took place around 1:00 PM at the intersection of Gran de Gràcia and Montseny streets. According to city officials, three of the injured were transported to a hospital, while the remaining three received on-site medical attention. Among those hurt, four were passengers on the bus and two were occupants of the car.

Authorities have confirmed that the injuries sustained by all victims are not life-threatening. The TMB bus was reportedly traveling uphill when it collided with the car that crossed into its path. This unfortunate event disrupted public transport services, affecting lines V17, 22, and 24 for nearly an hour.

The Barcelona Fire Department responded swiftly to manage the scene, while ambulances from the Sistema de Emergències Mèdiques arrived shortly after to assist those injured. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as emergency personnel worked diligently to ensure everyone received prompt care.

The collision caused significant delays in public transportation along Gran de Gràcia as authorities worked to clear the area. Commuters faced interruptions during peak travel hours, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding traffic safety in busy urban areas.

“The injuries are not severe, but we take every incident seriously,” said a spokesperson for TMB.

This incident underscores ongoing challenges faced by urban centers like Barcelona regarding road safety and public transport efficiency. As cities grow and traffic increases, ensuring safe passage for both vehicles and pedestrians remains a critical concern for local governments.

In recent years, Barcelona has implemented various measures aimed at improving road safety and reducing accidents. However, incidents like this remind residents and officials alike that more work is needed to protect citizens on busy streets.
