A nationwide strike affecting Renfe's Rodalies service is set for July 31, with minimum service levels established to mitigate disruptions during peak hours.
Workers from the Rodalies de Catalunya will participate in a nationwide strike on Friday, July 31, organized by the Intersindical Railway Union (SF-I). This action targets personnel involved in intervention and train operation within Renfe Viajeros. The strike aims to address ongoing labor concerns and improve working conditions for railway employees across Spain.
The Conselleria de Empresa i Treball has announced minimum service requirements to ensure that essential transport needs are met during this period. According to Renfe, 66% of Rodalies trains will operate during peak hours, specifically from 6:00 AM to 9:30 AM and from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Outside these times, only 33% of the usual service will be available. This measure is intended to minimize inconvenience for commuters while acknowledging the workers’ right to protest.
In addition to Rodalies services, long-distance AVE trains will also experience disruptions. The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has mandated that 73% of scheduled AVE and long-distance trains must run, ensuring that critical connections remain operational despite the strike.
Renfe has reassured passengers that all trains falling under the minimum service guidelines will run as planned. Any cancellations or delays are expected only among the remaining percentage of non-essential services. Historically, similar strikes have seen minimal participation; in a previous instance, less than 2% of staff participated, suggesting that while support exists for labor rights, actual disruption may be limited.
