The Government has authorised a grant of €4,007,385.69 to the Osona waste consortium to renew the Vic plant. The works aim to reduce downtime and improve material separation.
According to retema.es, the Government of Catalonia has authorised the Agència de Residus de Catalunya (ARC) to grant a direct subsidy of €4,007,385.69 to the Consortium for the Management of Urban Waste of Osona. The funds will be used to renew and modernise the multiproduct treatment and transfer plant in Vic.
The facility has accumulated wear on several of its equipment and has also increased its working capacity. The action aims to avoid downtime and incidents, recover efficiency in separation, improve the quality of the bales of recovered material, and curb maintenance costs.
The investment will be used to replace and incorporate technological equipment that improves waste classification. The Generalitat links it to current regulations and European recycling objectives, which require increasing recovery rates and reducing rejection.
Once the works are completed, the sorting plant will be able to process 14,000 tonnes per year in two shifts. The transfer facility will reach 20,000 tonnes annually of residual fraction and 10,000 tonnes of selectively collected organic matter, resulting in a projected capacity of 30,000 tonnes.
The plant receives light packaging and paper-cardboard from the joint collection, and its operations allow for the separation of recyclable materials for subsequent recovery. Additionally, the transfer facility groups the residual and organic fractions before taking them to the Municipal Waste Treatment Centre of Osona and the Ripollès, in Orís.
For the residents of Vic and the surrounding area, the change will be noticeable in the operation of the plant that manages their selective collection, with fewer planned downtimes. The Government's authorisation is the step that allows the consortium to begin the renewal of the equipment.
