Catalan administrations have allocated €12.4 million between 2021 and 2026 to activities related to Renfe. Following the Gelida accident, Renfe and Adif have identified 23 critical points in the network.
According to data from the Public Procurement Register of the Generalitat, as published by El Nacional, Catalan administrations have spent €12.4 million between 2021 and 2026 on activities related to Renfe. The expenditure includes everything from the maintenance of land alongside the tracks to the drafting of project plans and dissemination tasks.
The files do not only belong to the Generalitat. They also include municipalities, county councils, provincial councils, and other local entities. The majority of the amount, €11.1 million, corresponds to works and is divided among eight companies. Contratas Vilor SL (Cornellà de Llobregat) tops the list with €5.03 million, followed by Obres i Serveis Roig SA (Sant Vicenç dels Horts), with €1.83 million.
Next are Natur System SL (Hospitalet de Llobregat), with €1.33 million, and ACSA Obras e Infraestructuras (Barcelona), with €1.18 million. The remaining contractors are Elecnor Servicios y Proyectos (Madrid), Catalana de Perforacions (Santpedor), Rehatec Obres i Restauracions (Cabrera de Mar), and New Dry Impermeabilitzacions (Montcada i Reixac), with amounts ranging from €776,000 to €226,966.
In services, the highest contract is for SGS Tecnos SA (Barcelona), with €460,648.94. It is followed by KPMG Asesores (Madrid), with €90,480, and TPF Getinsa Euroestudios (Madrid), with €52,550. The total for services amounts to around €1.1 million.
After the Gelida train accident, Renfe and Adif reviewed their infrastructures at the beginning of 2026. Both operators identified around 70 risk points in the network, of which 23 are considered critical and require priority attention due to their potential danger.
According to the two operators, the deterioration of the tracks is due to two causes: weather phenomena, which accelerate wear, and the lack of sustained investment to maintain and renew the facilities. For those who use the Catalan railway network daily, the review opens the door to actions at those 23 points, although no specific timelines or locations have been detailed.
