The Badalona City Council has announced a significant initiative aimed at combating unemployment in the region. Starting from October 26, 2026, the municipality will implement the Treball i Formació program, which will create 63 job opportunities for residents currently without work. This program is designed not only to provide immediate employment but also to equip participants with essential skills and training over a twelve-month period.
The IMPO (Municipal Employment Promotion Service) oversees this initiative, which combines practical work experience with comprehensive training and personalized support. The goal is clear: improve the employability of those who face substantial barriers in accessing the job market.
According to Cristina Agüera, the first deputy mayor of Badalona, “this program combines a real job opportunity with training and support, allowing participants to enhance their skills while contributing to services that benefit our city.” This dual approach aims to foster both individual growth and community development.
The available positions are categorized into four distinct lines of action. Specifically, there are:
– 16 positions allocated for women experiencing domestic violence or those without benefits who have been unemployed for an extended period.
– 32 positions designated for individuals who are long-term unemployed and do not receive any benefits.
– 9 positions reserved for beneficiaries of guaranteed citizenship income.
– 6 positions specifically for transgender individuals facing unemployment.
This targeted approach reflects a commitment to inclusivity and support for vulnerable groups within the community. The selection process will be managed exclusively through the Servei d’Ocupació de Catalunya (SOC), ensuring that candidates meet specific administrative requirements based on their profiles.
No open application period will be established; instead, candidates will be directly referred by SOC offices. On September 21 and 22, 2026, IMPO representatives will reach out to eligible candidates with details regarding assessments and interviews necessary for selection. The entire selection process is expected to conclude by early October, with results announced on October 8 and 9.
This initiative echoes similar programs launched in other Spanish cities over recent years aimed at reducing unemployment rates among marginalized groups. For instance, Valencia’s employment scheme last year successfully integrated over 100 individuals, showcasing how local governments can effectively address labor market challenges through tailored programs.
The selected participants will engage in various activities designed not only to enhance their professional capabilities but also their personal development through approximately 60-80 hours of transversal training sessions throughout the year. These efforts aim to ensure that once employed, these individuals can thrive in their roles while contributing positively back into their communities.
