The city of Mollet del Vallès has unveiled an ambitious initiative aimed at enhancing its public educational facilities. The “Mollet Educa 2026-2028” plan will allocate a minimum of €3 million over the next three years, focusing on significant upgrades across ten primary and infant schools, a special education school, municipal nurseries, and an adult education center.
Investment Breakdown and Priorities
This substantial investment is primarily funded by the local government, which will contribute €2.38 million. The regional government, known as the Generalitat, will add €687,700 through its Financial Cooperation Program for Reform Works. Notably, 2026 is set to be the peak year for funding, with an allocation of €1.25 million. In subsequent years, investments will remain robust at over €900,000 annually.
Mireia Dionisio, the mayor of Mollet del Vallès from the PSC party, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “In Mollet we are clear that investing in education is investing in the future of the city. This plan has been developed in collaboration with school management teams to prioritize necessary actions.” This collaborative approach ensures that each year’s investments align closely with actual needs identified by educational leaders.
The municipality plans to work hand-in-hand with school directors to determine annual priorities for improvements. Among the proposed enhancements are renovations of windows and closures; bathroom refurbishments; installation of new playground equipment; upgrades to fire safety systems; floor repairs; and other measures aimed at boosting safety and comfort within educational environments.
The local government acknowledges that while structural maintenance largely falls under the jurisdiction of the Generalitat, it aims to underscore its commitment through this extraordinary financial effort. By establishing a stable roadmap until 2028, Mollet seeks to ensure that improvements do not solely rely on future regional investments.
The most significant expenditures planned for 2026 will focus on window replacements, security enhancements, and modernization efforts across educational facilities. Key projects include window replacements at Montseny (€175,000), Joan Salvat Papasseit (€146,545), and Sant Jordi (€121,200) schools. Additionally, bathroom renovations at Montseny (€97,819) and flooring updates at La Filadora nursery (€125,000) are also prioritized.
The program includes new fire safety installations at Joan Abelló and Can Vila schools along with boiler replacements at Joan Abelló. Other minor projects across various centers will address issues such as moisture repairs and updates to playgrounds and sports equipment.
A dedicated budget for painting works will cover around fifteen educational facilities including early childhood buildings and primary classrooms. These efforts aim not only to refresh physical spaces but also enhance overall aesthetics in areas like hallways and common zones.
This extensive investment plan reflects a forward-thinking vision for education in Mollet del Vallès. By prioritizing infrastructure improvements now, local authorities aim to create a more conducive learning environment that meets contemporary standards while preparing students for future challenges.
