As the Tour de France kicks off in Barcelona, significant traffic disruptions are expected. Key areas will see road closures and public transport adjustments from July 2 to July 5.
Barcelona is gearing up for the prestigious Tour de France, which officially begins on July 2, 2026. The event will bring extensive traffic restrictions across the city, particularly affecting the Horta-Guinardó and Eixample districts. Starting from the evening of July 1 and intensifying after 2:00 PM on July 2, residents can expect road closures, parking bans, and limited access to various areas. Traffic is anticipated to gradually reopen after 9:30 PM on the same day.
Despite these disruptions, the Hospital de Sant Pau will maintain its operations without interruption throughout the event. All access points to the hospital will remain open, ensuring that patients and healthcare professionals can reach their destinations without difficulty. Notably, access via Sant Antoni Maria Claret Street for those visiting the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (Pavilion 20) will be fully operational.
The most significant restrictions will occur along Avinguda Gaudí; however, several other streets including Ronda del Guinardó, Carrer de Sant Quintí, Carrer de Còrsega, Carrer de Dos de Maig, Carrer d’Aragó, Avinguda Diagonal, Carrer de Nàpols, and Carrer de Los Castillejos will also be impacted. Residents are advised to avoid using private vehicles during this period and instead opt for walking or public transportation.
During peak hours of disruption between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM on July 2, pedestrian mobility within restricted zones will be prioritized. The metro service at Sagrada Família Station (Line L2) will not stop at this station starting from 1:00 PM until the conclusion of events that day. Meanwhile, Sagrada Família Station (Line L5) will operate normally but without elevator access due to ongoing maintenance work.
The Provença-Marina vestibule will close at 1:00 PM as well; exits can only be made through Cerdeña and Plaza de la Sagrada Familia vestibules which may also face restrictions based on passenger volume. Additionally, connections between Lines L4 and L5 at Verdaguer Station remain closed until October due to improvement works initiated last year.
Bus services including routes D50, H8, H10, V21, V23, 19, 33, 34, 47, 117, 191,192 ,100 ,and101 are also set to experience detours or modifications in response to these mobility restrictions.
Residents are encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time while allowing ample time for potential delays caused by these changes.
