On June 23, Castelldefels will host its annual Sant Joan celebration, featuring a significant security operation to ensure public safety. The event aims to prevent incidents following last year's challenges.

As summer approaches, Castelldefels is gearing up for the highly anticipated verbena de Sant Joan on June 23. This year, the local government has announced a comprehensive security plan in collaboration with the Mossos d’Esquadra and various civil protection agencies. The initiative aims to enhance safety measures after last year’s incidents raised concerns among residents and officials alike.

The security deployment will be particularly concentrated around the plaza de las Palmeres, where over 200 police officers, including local police and private security personnel, will be stationed. This increased presence is part of a broader strategy to mitigate risks associated with large gatherings during the festivities.

This year’s event will see familiar restrictions on parking and traffic flow. Streets 9 and 11 will have their parking facilities closed, while the promenade between Avenida República Argentina and Puente del Poal will also be off-limits for vehicles from 9 PM on June 23 until 10 AM on June 24. Residents who require access to restricted areas can obtain special permits.

The local police force is set to utilize specialized canine units trained in detecting drugs and psychotropic substances. Additionally, alcohol checks will be conducted throughout the night to prevent driving under the influence. A dedicated medical service will operate at Castelldefels Platja station to assist anyone in need during the celebrations.

The municipality has reiterated that bonfires are prohibited across all areas except for an official bonfire at the park of Muntanyeta as part of the Flama del Canigó event.

A key feature of this year’s celebration is the establishment of a Punto Lila, located along Avenida de los Banys adjacent to the promenade. This point will offer support against gender-based violence and LGBTQ+ discrimination from 10 PM until 2 AM.

The city has also revived its ‘Safe Routes’ initiative, which connects nightlife areas with both Renfe train stations in Castelldefels. This program aims to provide safe passage for attendees returning home after enjoying the festivities.

Caution regarding fire safety remains paramount; bonfires are strictly forbidden outside designated areas due to environmental concerns. The municipality emphasizes that no fireworks should be used within forested regions or within a radius of 500 meters. Outside these zones, residents are encouraged to handle pyrotechnics responsibly while adhering to safety regulations.

The city council reminds everyone that lighting fires on beaches is prohibited as they are natural spaces that must be preserved.

The traffic disruptions extend beyond just parking; bridges such as Avenida Eucaliptus and Cova Fumada will also experience closures during this time frame. Cleanup operations along the beach are scheduled to commence early on June 24 at 6:30 AM, ensuring that any remnants of celebration are swiftly addressed by municipal services under police supervision.

This proactive approach reflects Castelldefels’ commitment not only to preserving public order but also enhancing community enjoyment during one of its most cherished traditions. Residents and visitors alike can look forward to a vibrant yet secure atmosphere as they celebrate Sant Joan together.
