The elevator at Floresta station in Sant Cugat del Vallès has resumed operations after a lengthy closure. This restoration, costing nearly 155,000 euros, aims to enhance accessibility for commuters.
The long-awaited reopening of the elevator at the Floresta station marks a significant milestone for residents and commuters in Sant Cugat del Vallès. After being out of service for several years, the elevator was officially put back into operation on June 25, 2026. The total cost of repairs reached 154,796 euros, with funding contributions from both the local government and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC).
The municipality provided 44,928 euros, while FGC covered 109,868 euros. The extensive repair work included structural enhancements to the elevator itself and improvements to address water infiltration issues within the structure. Additionally, ventilation upgrades were implemented to ensure better air circulation.
At the inauguration event, FGC President Carles Ruiz emphasized their commitment to maintaining the elevator effectively. He stated that this would facilitate quicker responses to any future malfunctions. “We aim to provide a good service to our citizens,” Ruiz remarked during his speech.
The mayor of Sant Cugat, Josep Maria Vallès, acknowledged public frustration over the prolonged downtime but expressed gratitude for users’ patience throughout the process. Vallès described the day as historic for local transportation accessibility: “Today we celebrate having this essential service restored,” he said.
This elevator was originally installed in 2017 following requests from city officials aimed at improving access for individuals with reduced mobility between different levels of the neighborhood—specifically connecting Passeig de la Floresta and plaza Miquel Ros. However, since its installation, it has faced multiple operational challenges.
The recent renovations not only restore functionality but also enhance safety measures by integrating a new communication system that connects directly with FGC’s Central Station Supervision Center (CSE). This allows staff at both locations to respond promptly to any incidents affecting passengers.
This initiative reflects a broader trend seen across various cities where aging infrastructure is being revitalized to meet modern accessibility standards.
